In Antelope Canyon, Ritu Raj offers a deeply evocative interpretation of the famed Arizona slot canyon—not through representational mimicry, but through abstraction that captures its essence. A wash of soft ochres, sunlit pinks, shadowy violets, and rusted reds undulates across the canvas, echoing the wind-worn sandstone and the way light pours through narrow stone corridors.
Rather than depict the canyon directly, Raj abstracts its spirit: the dance of time and light, the curvature of wind-sculpted walls, the meditative stillness within its depths. The composition invites the viewer to experience the canyon as memory and emotion—an inner landscape as much as a geological one.
Here, Raj finds kinship with the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, not in literal style but in approach.
