Ritu Raj is a contemporary abstract painter based in Phoenix. These writings begin the way paintings do — not with a plan but with a pull. Some arrive away from the studio, grappling with something that hasn't resolved into form. Others begin with a proposition — a question from reading that won't release — and the only way to make it mine is to write into it. Inquiry on the page becomes the ground the painting stands on.
