Digestive System is a playful, bold exploration of the unseen processes inside us—a 48” x 48” cut wood painting that brings the organic forms of the body into vibrant, abstract life. Inspired by both anatomical diagrams and the flowing shapes of mid-century design, I wanted to reimagine the interior landscape of the human body through the lens of color, movement, and form. This is not a literal map of digestion; it’s a celebration of its energy, its chaos, and its essential beauty.
I carved the piece using CNC technology to create the organic, amoeba-like shape, then layered it with acrylic paint in vivid pinks, reds, blues, and deep greens. Each color feels alive, almost liquid, swirling within the black border that holds them together like a cell membrane. The final coat of epoxy resin gives the work a glossy, almost wet sheen—enhancing the sense of something biological, something moving beneath the surface. I love how the epoxy turns the painting into an object that feels both sculptural and painterly, inviting you to not just see it, but feel its materiality.
For me, Digestive System is about what happens inside us—physically, emotionally, creatively. It’s about the ways we process the world: how we take in experience, break it down, absorb what we need, and let the rest move on. There’s something beautifully abstract about that invisible journey, and I wanted to honor it with color and form that feel joyful, dynamic, and unapologetically bold. It’s a reminder that even the most ordinary functions of life are filled with pattern, rhythm, and wonder—if we choose to look at them differently.
