Double Donut (2025) is a burst of visual pleasure — a painting that flirts with absurdity, symmetry, and indulgence. This 48 x 48 inch mixed media piece on wood belongs to the Pop Art Collection, where humor meets form and play meets philosophy.
Two interlocking donut forms dominate the surface, rendered in sugary pinks, deep espresso brown, and sunlit yellow. The textures are thick, almost frosted, with resin-like glazes creating a glossy finish. The circular forms overlap slightly, like a Venn diagram of desire — playful, awkward, and strangely precise.
I created Double Donut as a joyful break — a way to reclaim fun without apology. These donuts aren’t edible. They’re ideas. They’re form and function meeting in whimsy. But beneath the humor is a question: Why is indulgence often dismissed in art? Why can’t joy be intellectual?
This painting shares sensibility with the ironic boldness of Claes Oldenburg, whose soft sculptures elevated the everyday into monumental statements. Like Oldenburg, I take delight seriously.
Double Donut doesn’t resolve into meaning. It loops. It giggles. It wants you to smile, and then maybe wonder why that matters.
