In my painting Tides of Ember and Moss, I wanted to capture the raw pulse of nature’s opposing forces — fire and earth, passion and grounding — in one sweeping, abstract composition. This 5ft x 5ft oil on canvas, created using my signature twine-painting method, invites the viewer into a world where red tides crash against deep green textures, each movement spontaneous yet intentional. The twine becomes both a brush and a conductor, pulling oil paint across the canvas to create fluid patterns that evoke natural rhythms and elemental energy.

What fascinates me most about the twine technique is how it allows the unexpected to surface. Instead of controlling every detail, I surrender to the process, letting the interaction between the paint, the twine, and the wet surface reveal forms I could never plan. In this work, swirling scarlets and burning crimsons rise like embers, layered over cool, mossy greens that whisper of earth and growth. It’s not just about color — it’s about texture, depth, and the emotional contrasts they stir. Every sweep leaves traces, shadows, and textures, pulling the viewer deeper into the unfolding visual story.

Tides of Ember and Moss is ultimately about balance — not a static equilibrium, but a living, breathing negotiation between energies. It reflects my ongoing fascination with abstraction as a language of movement and feeling, where nothing is fixed and every glance reveals something new. This painting isn’t just an image; it’s an invitation to feel, to reflect, and to experience the ever-changing dance between intensity and calm.
