Blue Nugget (2022) is a study in compression and brilliance — a compact constellation of color, matter, and sensation. Part of the Ephemeral Atmosphere Collection, this 60 x 60 inch mixed media canvas holds a dense vibrational core inside a field of softness.

The painting centers around an irregular cluster — what I think of as a “nugget” — made from metallic textures, layered blue pigments, and embedded gestural forms. It doesn’t sit still. It hums. It floats like a celestial fragment, a thought crystallized before it slips into the unconscious.

The surrounding canvas is misty and quiet, composed of greys and silvers that seem to breathe. This contrast — radiant core against atmospheric drift — gives the painting its power. It feels like something small and sacred has condensed out of the fog of abstraction.

This work resonates with the sensorial investigations of Anselm Kiefer, particularly in the tactile density and the way material holds history. But Blue Nugget is less heavy, more suspended — as if light itself got caught in a mineral form.

The title came intuitively. “Nugget” suggests value, rarity, compact meaning. And that’s how this piece operates. It asks the viewer to look close, to sense density in space, to experience how something minimal can also be emotionally charged.

As part of the Ephemeral Atmosphere Collection, Blue Nugget is an offering of stillness, weight, and wonder — a quiet force held within a storm.
