A short, honest account of where AI is and is not part of my work. My rule for all of it is the one in The Unalgorithmic Self: let the machine check the work, never let it sign it.
Every painting is made by hand, in my studio in Phoenix, with paint, thread and gravity. No AI is used to make them.
I wrote the book. ChatGPT then helped me shape what I had written into a full draft, which went through two rounds of editing with the publisher.
This book was written in conversation with an AI language model, and the cover says so. The ideas, the questions, the argument and the values are mine. The model was a second reader: it clarified, challenged and sometimes sped up the writing. Every sentence that stayed was my decision.
The Unalgorithmic Self is read in an AI recreation of my own voice. The Shape of Seeing is narrated by Ash.
ArtGraph uses AI to help describe paintings in language. I review the readings, and the framework behind them, its dimensions and vocabulary, is my own.
I use AI to help draft and edit some posts and site copy. I rewrite before anything goes out, and if you ask, I will always tell you.
Using the paintings or their images to train software needs my written permission, as the Image licence says.
