Blue Ocean (2022) is a meditation on vastness — a space too large to fully grasp, yet deeply intimate in sensation. Part of the Ephemeral Atmosphere Collection, this 97.3 x 77.3 inch mixed media canvas immerses the viewer in layered hues, weightless depth, and the feeling of being surrounded.

The surface is built with veils of blue — from ultramarine to smoky indigo — overlaying one another like waves. No single brushstroke dominates; instead, they gather to form something more elemental. Embedded textures break the fluidity, like sea foam or submerged memory.

This piece is not a seascape, but it evokes the sensation of standing at the shore, gazing into a blue that never ends. It is emotional, ambient, and aware of its own immensity.

Blue Ocean shares visual and spiritual resonance with Hiroshi Sugimoto, whose photographic seascapes capture horizon lines as thresholds between perception and infinity. Like Sugimoto, I’m interested in how repetition and stillness can speak to the sublime.

The “ocean” here is not literal. It’s symbolic — for emotion, for the subconscious, for surrender. The canvas asks you to float, to let go of orientation, and to feel your way through color.

As part of the Ephemeral Atmosphere Collection, Blue Ocean offers no clear story, but infinite entry points. It’s not a painting to interpret — it’s a painting to enter.
