Horizons as Possibility: The Edge of What Could Be

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Collection: Ephemeral Atmosphere

Horizons as Possibility (2020) is part of my Ephemeral Atmosphere Collection, a series where I explore space not as a fixed place, but as a shifting suggestion of what might be just beyond reach. This 48 x 48 inch acrylic on canvas offers a meditative field where soft washes of blues and grays meet uncertain bands of yellow and rose — an ambiguous, almost dissolving horizon.

The painting resists narrative. There is no clear foreground, no destination, only an open expanse that invites the viewer to project their own longings, fears, and possibilities onto the blurred horizon line. The work is about potential, about the emotional and psychological spaces we inhabit when we look toward what’s next.

In spirit, Horizons as Possibility echoes the atmospheric minimalism of Hiroshi Sugimoto, whose seascapes hold the horizon as both an anchor and an elusive threshold. Like Sugimoto, I am fascinated by the horizon not as a place, but as a space of meditation, a marker of possibility, tension, and unknown futures.

Yet, while Sugimoto’s horizons are photographic and still, mine lean into painterly ambiguity — where the line wavers, dissolves, and breathes, reflecting the instability of hope itself. This painting became a place where I could sit with uncertainty, letting the paint whisper rather than declare.

Horizons as Possibility is an invitation to linger in the unresolved, to find comfort in ambiguity, and to imagine new spaces beyond the known.

After 30 years as an executive and entrepreneur, I returned to painting full-time to explore what words and strategy couldn’t hold. I create bold, expressive abstract art to shift how we see and feel—opening space for reflection, connection, and quiet transformation. For me, change begins not with certainty, but with listening.
