Question 1

Why should I collect abstract paintings by Ritu Raj?

Accepted Answer

Ritu Raj's work bridges Indian modernism, global abstraction, and experimental technique. Collectors are drawn to the way he combines historical legacies — Souza, Husain, Rothko, Pollock — with innovations like thread-based painting. Each piece reflects themes of perception, inquiry, and surrender. His work is collected across the US, Europe, and Asia, and commissions begin at $10,000.

Question 2

What makes Ritu Raj's painting technique unique?

Accepted Answer

Ritu Raj paints using thread instead of brushes — a technique he calls Organic Movement. Thread is drawn through viscous paint and released across the canvas, surrendering to gravity and viscosity. Each mark is unrepeatable. His Abstract Inquiry practice works differently: slower, in oil and acrylic, built through sustained attention where the canvas signals and he responds.

Question 3

What is the Abstraction Engine?

Accepted Answer

The Abstraction Engine is the first recommendation engine of its kind built for abstract art. Rather than searching by subject or color, you describe your space, your life, and what you want to feel; the engine reads that against Ritu Raj's Taxonomy of Abstraction and recommends the paintings that answer it. It is available at rituart.com/find-your-painting.

Question 4

What is the Taxonomy of Abstraction?

Accepted Answer

The Taxonomy of Abstraction is Ritu Raj's framework for reading abstract painting. Six dimensions describe the painting itself — Texture, Form, Color Range, Palette, Mood, and Abstraction Quotient — and three describe the encounter between the work and the viewer: Space, Transformation, and Feeling. It is the grammar the Abstraction Engine runs on. The working paper is at rituart.com/taxonomy-of-abstraction.

Question 5

Where can I view Ritu Raj's artwork in person?

Accepted Answer

Ritu Raj works from a studio in Phoenix, Arizona, under the name RituStudio. Studio visits are available by appointment. He is represented by Jarrow & Goodman in Los Angeles, where his solo exhibition String Theory presented the Organic Movement collection in September 2025. His work was also presented by the gallery at the LA Art Show (January 2026) and Scottsdale Art Week (March 2026).

Question 6

How can I commission a painting from Ritu Raj?

Accepted Answer

Ritu Raj accepts commissions for collectors seeking original, site-specific works — for private residences, corporate spaces, or galleries. Commissions begin at $10,000 and typically take 8–14 weeks. Inquiries can be made at rituart.com/commission-custom-abstract-painting.

Question 7

What is Organic Movement?

Accepted Answer

Organic Movement is Ritu Raj's signature technique: thread replaces brush, and paint is drawn through wet pigment then released across the canvas. Gravity and viscosity complete the mark. Each pull is unrepeatable — a single event in time. The lineage runs through Pollock, Sam Francis, and Morris Louis.
