Abstraction 1 (2021) is the gateway piece of my Geometric Splendor Collection — a series rooted in the quiet drama of line, symmetry, and form. Rendered in acrylic on a 48 x 48 inch canvas, this painting establishes a language of precision layered with intuition. It is both a blueprint and a meditation, a diagram and a dream.
The work balances sharp-edged geometry with hand-drawn imperfection — exploring the tension between systems and spontaneity. Composed of intersecting shapes, muted gradients, and subtle modulations of rhythm, Abstraction 1 radiates a calm structural confidence, like a visual mantra repeating just off-beat.
In its spirit and execution, this piece aligns with the ethos of Sarah Morris, whose architectural abstractions echo the coded languages of urban planning, control, and meaning. Yet while Morris leans into clarity and repetition, I move toward ambiguity — allowing small disruptions in pattern and texture to rehumanize the geometry.
What emerges is a sense of architecture undone — structure softening at the edges, form loosening into sensation. Abstraction 1 isn't just about the shapes we see, but the way they invite the body to breathe, to center, to feel.
As the inaugural painting of this collection, it sets a tone: one of quiet power, visual order, and emotional resonance through shape and restraint.
